Angry protesters greeted Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar as she arrived at a Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) fundraiser Saturday in California.

Protesters shouted “shame on you, terrorists,” “Burn the Quran!” and “Ilhan Omar, go to hell!” in an apparent response to what many see as Omar’s anti-Semitic language and anti-Israel comments that she has made, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

Omar has provoked accusations of anti-Semitism with her frequent attacks on Israel, suggesting at one point that it had “hypnotized the world” and prayed that Allah would “awaken” it. She divided the Democratic Party this month over a resolution that was first meant to condemn anti-Semitism but became a reprimand against virtually every form of discrimination. (RELATED: Rep. The Los Angeles Police Department deployed officers at the scene but would not disclose the number involved, according to City News Service.

Following her appearance on Comedy Central with Trevor Noah, Planned Parenthood president Dr. Leana Wen tweeted Friday that she will wear as a “badge of honor” the label of “Trump’s nightmare,” which Noah bestowed on her during the show.

Wen tweeted, “Last night, I was on @TheDailyShow to talk about Planned Parenthood’s incredible life-saving work. @Trevornoah called me @realDonaldTrump’s “nightmare” — a badge of honor I proudly wear as we fight for our patients, our rights & our future!”

During Noah’s show Thursday evening, Wen advocated for universal healthcare, claiming that sickness originates from “systemic issues.”

“In working in the ER, I saw that what’s making people sick isn’t just the illness that they have, its also systemic issues. And that’s why I truly believe that healthcare has to be a human right that’s guaranteed to all and not just a privilege available to some,” she said.

Wen also went on to claim that the healthcare services provided by Planned Parenthood should not be considered political in nature.

When Noah directly addressed to topic of abortion in the interview, Wen characterized the procedure as “standard” and just normal “healthcare.”

“Abortion is a standard medical procedure, that one fourth of women will have in their lifetime. It’s part of the full spectrum of reproductive healthcare, which is healthcare, and its important for us to speak about abortion in that context,” she explained. (RELATED: Gov. Northam: ‘I Don’t Have Any Regrets’ About Infanticide Comments)

At one point in the interview, Wen accused Trump of lying about late-term abortion practices and post-birth abortion claims:

We have to call out President Trump for what he is doing, which is lying. What he is saying has no basis in medicine or reality. And here are the facts: about 99% of abortions occur before 21 weeks; those that occur later in pregnancy are because something in the pregnancy has gone very wrong … these are extremely difficult, hugely personal and challenging circumstances that women and families find themselves in and they deserve our compassion, and President Trump is exploiting their pain for political gain and I say to him, “Shame on you, President Trump.”

Noah concluded the interview by telling Wen,  “I’ll tell you this much, you are a doctor who is a woman, who is running Planned Parenthood, who finished college and is an immigrant. You are literally Trump’s nightmare.”

Connecticut appears to treat gun owners differently than anti-gun activists.

Last week, an anti-gun activist was caught allegedly threatening a Connecticut politician.

“If I had a gun, I’d blow away Sampson and a large group of NRA,” a photo of a text message she was in the midst of creating revealed.

The sender of the text was escorted out but faced no further punishment.

“We investigated it and we didn’t feel there was a threat,” Lt. Glen Richards of the Connecticut Capitol Police stated.

When a Connecticut gun owner made similar private threats, however, the full force of the law was employed against him.

On Aug. 29, 2014, Edward “Ted” Taupier, of Cromwell, Connecticut, was part of an email discussion when he said this about his divorced judge, Elizabeth Bozzuto: “Bozzuto lives in Watertown with her boys and Na! … There [are] 245 [yards] between her master bedroom and a cemetery that provides cover and concealment. They could try and put me in jail but that would start the ringing of a bell that can be undone.”

At the time he wrote the email, Bozzuto had ordered no contact between Taupier and his two children for more than three months, he told The Daily Caller.

Bozzuto was not one of the recipients of the email; instead, it was a discussion between other court litigants and activists.

One of the recipients, Jennifer Verraneault, days later shared the email with an individual at the Greater Hartford Legal Aid Society, a state legislator and others. A copy made its way to the Connecticut Judicial Marshals before Bozzuto received a screenshot, Taupier said.

Verraneault and Bozzuto did not return emails for comment.

This triggered an investigation and on Aug. 29, 2014, the Connecticut State Police filed a risk warrant against Taupier.

That risk warrant cited Taupier’s gun collection: “That an inquiry through the State of Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection Special Licensing and Firearm Unit database revealed Edward Taupier has a valid Connecticut pistol permit and twelve firearms.”

“If a referral was made to the Connecticut State Police it would have to be investigated fully,” a representative of the Connecticut State Police told the Caller, noting further that a risk warrant was determined to be appropriate.

Risk warrants are the result of so-called red flag laws and Connecticut was the first to pass such a law in 1999.

They allow law enforcement to temporarily remove firearms from individuals deemed dangerous without that individual being charged with a crime as long as a judge signs a warrant.

The risk warrant against Taupier was as a result of Connecticut’s “red flag law.” Taupier said the Connecticut State Police used overwhelming force to execute the warrant.

“It took 15 members of SEAL Team Six to kill Bin Laden, but 75 to 100 SWAT members to arrest me,” Taupier said.

Though not charged with a crime, Taupier’s guns were confiscated, he was taken into custody and Taupier said his bond was in excess of $1 million. He was also placed on two ankle monitors with a GPS device monitoring.

Connecticut Judge David Gold, who ordered the restrictions, did not respond to a request for comment.

Ironically, Judge Bozzuto recused herself from Taupier’s divorce and the judge who replaced her ordered visitation for Taupier starting in December 2014.

Even though the risk warrant was later dismissed, Taupier was kept on ankle monitors and his guns stayed confiscated until he was formally charged on Nov. 14, 2014. Taupier opted for a bench trial, but before a decision could be made, the U.S. Supreme Court made a pertinent decision.

In Elonis vs. United States, the court heard another case involving a threat made in a divorce. In the case, Anthony Elonis said on Facebook, referring to his ex-wife, “Took all the strength I had not to turn the bitch ghost. Pull my knife, flick my wrist, and slit her throat.”

The U.S. Supreme Court, in an 8-1 decision, reversed a lower court and said those words did not constitute a “true threat.” Chief Justice John Roberts authored the majority opinion and argued that because Elonis did not have mens rea, a guilty mind, it was not enough to convict.

Roberts stated:

In light of the foregoing, Elonis’s conviction cannot stand. The jury was instructed that the government need prove only that a reasonable person would regard Elonis’s communications as threats, and that was an error. Federal criminal liability generally does not turn solely on the results of an act without considering the defendant’s mental state. That understanding ‘took deep and early root in American soil’ and Congress left it in here: Under Section 875, “wrongdoing must be conscious to be criminal.”

Judge Gold was not convinced: “The objective test described in Krijger as the means of determining what constitutes a true threat continues to be good law in Connecticut even after Elonis.”

Supreme Court Chief Justice of the United States John G. Roberts, Jr. waits for the arrival of Former president George H.W. Bush to lie in State at the U.S. Capitol Rotunda on Capitol Hill on Monday, Dec. 03, 2018 in Washington, DC. Jabin Botsford/Pool via Reuters

State v. Krijger, the case cited by Judge Gold, also appears to be a poor precedent because the threat was made directly to the person.

“The defendant was alleged to have made threatening statements to a town attorney immediately after the conclusion of a court hearing at which the town attorney advised the court of the town’s intention to seek to impose fines against the defendant for his continued zoning violations.” Judge Gold stated in his decision.

Even though the Krijger threat was made directly to the person, unlike in Taupier’s case, was still found guilty.

Judge Gold ruled that Taupier’s private email did constitute a “true threat” the legal standard he used to convict:

Using rhetorical embellishments to drive home the point, the defendant’s language was the rough equivalent of “I am going to shoot Judge Bozzuto and there is nothing she can do to stop me” — thereby reasonably suggesting that the defendant had become desperate enough not only to make the threat but also to carry it out.

Judge Gold even noted law enforcement tested Taupier’s guns: “Trooper Matthew Eagleston, of the Connecticut State Police, a firearms expert, inspected and test fired those four weapons (from those taken from Taupier) and concluded that each was fully operable and capable of accurately firing a projectile 245 yards.”

Sunny Kelley was one of the recipients of the email and she disagrees.

“Ted was convicted for his private thoughts,” she told the Caller. Kelley was one several parents featured in a 2018 story from the Caller. She has been barred from seeing her son since 2012.

Taupier was ordered to serve 18 months in prison but allowed on bail while his case was appealed.

In 2017, he made what law enforcement determined was another threat when he wrote on Facebook, “KILL COURT EMPLOYEES AND SAVE THE COUNTRY.”

He was taken into custody but eventually struck a deal, which did not add any prison time. He was released from prison on Dec. 24, 2018. While in prison, his parental rights were terminated.

“I was brought into court handcuffed and shackled,” Taupier said.

“Until further order of the court, the defendant shall have no in-person access with either of the children, and he shall not communicate or attempt to communicate with them in any manner, including by telephone, email, text message, video or internet call, social media, or by any other written or electronic means,” the order stated.

The court justified its order by concluding that “the contact between the children and their father since the date of judgment has been harmful to them. The father argues that he was only trying to teach the children to question authority. In reality, he was abusing his own parental authority to enlist them as foot soldiers in his war against the family court system.”

His case also nearly sparked a new law. In 2017, then Connecticut Democratic Rep. William Tong introduced a law that would increase the penalties for threats to a judge.

“In one especially chilling case, a top judge in the family court system has been subjected to repeated threats sent by email and recorded on YouTube from a man who said he was going to train his children to kill judges,” The Hartford Courant said in covering debate on the law, presumably referring to Taupier.

Taupier said he did make YouTube videos but never said he was going to train his children to kill judges.

Daniela Altimari, who wrote the story, did not return an email.

Tong is now the Connecticut attorney general, and his director of communications, Elizabeth Benton, confirmed Taupier’s case inspired the proposed law, which ultimately did not pass.

While Taupier has been released, he continues to be on an ankle monitor and has never received his guns back.

Taupier said he feels the real crime has not been prosecuted: “[Connecticut] spent millions prosecuting me while they ignored a real crime.”

United Airlines announced in a Friday press release that it will be the first U.S. airline to allow customers to identify themselves with a non-binary gender.

“United Airlines today announced it has become the first U.S. airline to offer non-binary gender options throughout all booking channels in addition to providing the option to select the title ‘Mx.’ during booking and in a MileagePlus customer profile,” the release began. “Customers now have the ability to identify themselves as M(male), F(female), U(undisclosed) or X(unspecified), corresponding with what is indicated on their passports or identification.” (RELATED: Catholic Journalist Gets Visit From Police After ‘Misgendering’ A Trans Person)

The company tweeted out the announcement with the slogan “Fly how you identify.”

The statement goes on to explain that United Airlines teamed up with Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and The Trevor Project to compile initiatives by which employees will be trained about “preferred pronouns and the persistence of gender norms, LGBT competency in the workplace and other steps to make United an inclusive space for both customers and employees.” (RELATED: LGBT Group Targets ‘Far-Right’ Brett Kavanaugh As ‘Direct Threat’)

Though United Airlines did not respond to The Daily Caller’s request for specifics of their training initiatives, HRC’s “Diversity Training on Gender Identity and Gender Expression” website explains that “to ensure compliance with employment policies, all employees should at a minimum have clear guidance regarding appropriate workplace behavior and the consequences of failing to comply with anti-discrimination policies that include gender identity.”

United Airlines did not indicate what, if any, disciplinary or legal actions would be taken against any employee who misgendered a passenger.

HRC further stipulates that “supervisory employees should receive diversity training that includes clear examples of discrimination based on gender identity shortly after starting employment and on a regular basis thereafter.” (RELATED: Tucker Interviews Teacher Fired After Refusing To Call Trans Student By Preferred Pronoun)

United Airlines is the first airline to implement the policy after members of the industry trade groups Airlines for America (A4A) and International Air Transport Association “approved a new international standard for non-binary passengers effective June 1,” per CNN.

Parkland shooting survivor Sydney Aiello, 19, died Sunday after committing suicide, according to police.

Aiello was reportedly suffering from “survivor’s guilt” on account of one of her very close friends being killed in the mass school shooting last winter, CBS 4 Miami reports.

Cara Aiello, Sydney’s mother, told CBS 4 that Sydney had also been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, making it difficult for her to attend her college classes because of her fear of being in a classroom. She said Sydney was frequently sad but never reached out for help before killing herself. (RELATED: Here’s The Wounded Warrior’s Response To David Hogg That Is Going Viral)

Sydney’s close friend, Meadow Pollack, was one of the 17 victims of the shooting last winter.

Meadow’s brother, Hunter Pollack, tweeted Wednesday in response to Sydney’s suicide, urging Twitter users to help the Aiello family by contributing for the funeral expenses: “Beautiful Sydney with such a bright future was taken from us way too soon. My friend’s sister and someone dear to Meadow.”

Ryan Petty, father of Alaina Perry — another one of the 17 students killed in the Parkland shooting — told CBS 4 Thursday, “It breaks my heart that we’ve lost yet another student from Stoneman Douglas.” (RELATED: Parkland Students’ Anti-NRA Protest Against Publix Backfires)

“Some of the questions that need to be asked are: Do you wish you were dead and not wake up? Second question: Have you had thoughts of killing herself?” he said. “My advice to parents is to ask questions. Don’t be afraid. Don’t wait.”

WASHINGTON — D.C. City Councilmember Trayon White Sr. (D-Ward 8) says that a friend was behind the wheel of his BMW when it was involved in what the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is investigating as a hit-and-run.

MPD will only release police reports for crashes to the parties involved and their respective legal teams, but The Washington Post was able to obtain a copy of the report, which said a Toyota Camry was struck from behind on Interstate 295 by a BMW with D.C. government plates close to midnight on Monday.

According to the report, the driver of the BMW gave the Camry occupants two phone numbers, promising to call police and give insurance information to the Camry’s driver. But then he “fled the scene without providing the mentioned documentation.”

White lashed out at Fox5 News on Twitter, saying that their report of what he termed “a minor fender bender” as a hit-and-run was inaccurate and “this is why people don’t trust [Fox 5],” adding the hashtag “#fakenews” to his tweet. Fox5 did report the incident as a hit-and-run, as did The Washington Post, attributing the classification to the District’s police chief.

White released a statement saying that the vehicle was taken by a friend without his knowledge or permission. He also called into the “Angie Ange In The Morning” radio show to explain himself, saying that a friend used his spare key to take the vehicle and the media coverage was inaccurate.

“What news don’t tell you is they knew that wasn’t me driving,” White said. “The gentleman who hit the car got out and talked to the people and everything but they don’t wanna mention that part. You know how it goes.”

When asked how that friend was able to take a car that says Councilmember Ward 8 on its official plates, White responded, “Exactly. Exactly.”

White then retweeted Angie Ange’s clip of their interview, where she said she advised him to “protect his brand… at all costs.”

White made headlines not long ago when he claimed Jews control the weather. A subsequent apology visit to the Holocaust Museum was bungled when members of his staff compared a Warsaw ghetto to “a gated community” and White himself left early, something many considered quite rude, especially given the circumstances.

The morning after the hit-and-run, the D.C. City Council held a special legislative meeting to reprimand another Democrat, Jack Evans, for separate ethics violations.

The hit-and-run involving Trayon’s White vehicle had not yet been reported by the media and White spoke at the meeting, saying, “We take an oath to faithfully discharge the duties of our office,” before reading aloud several sections from the Code of Conduct.

“[Evans] is entitled to due process,” said White, “but in the meantime we must ensure that we’re doing our due diligence in upholding our rules and laws that we took an oath to abide by.”

Flores Del Toro died after a shootout with police. Investigators say the illegal first shot and killed Thompson, 42, and then wounded police officer Benito Chavez, 22, on Tuesday night. The two followed the assailant in a brief high-speed pursuit and were attempting to question Toro because locals reported he had been driving erratically.

Toro allegedly exited his vehicle and began shooting. He was then fatally wounded by return fire and died in a nearby hospital. (RELATED: San Jose Police Officer: Sanctuary Laws ‘Need To Be Changed Immediately)

Ellensburg, Washington, Police Capt. Dan Hansberry told the USA Today that Toro was not wanted by authorities, who have no idea why the assailant decided to evade questioning by the two police officers.

Hansberry called the incident a “road rage-type event” and acknowledged that local police “had limited contacts with him,” but the police officer said these contacts “nothing of real significance.”

New Jersey commuters got a surprise, and not the good kind, Thursday when they showed up to the train station and the doors were locked.

When train riders started asking why on social media about why the doors to the Hamilton train station weren’t open, the New Jersey Transit responded that it wasn’t there fault, per the New York Post.

“Why is a donut shop in charge of opening a train station?” asked Jerry Burke.

In response, the transit agency explained that, “Hi Jerry, this was presented in their contract with NJT when purchasing the location. -TB.”

“NJ TRANSIT has an arrangement with Dunkin Donuts that allows the vendor access to Hamilton station to prepare for business before the station’s ticket window officially opens at 6 a.m.”spokesperson Nancy Snyder with NJ Transit shared in a statement to NJ.com.

The Dunkin’ manager then threw the transit company under the bus, so to speak, and said he was under the impression that the “responsibility to open the doors falls on a transit employee or janitor.”

“We have to open our store at 4:30 in the morning, so if the lobby is not open, we have to open it for them. Without the lobby open, there’s no access to come in the store,” Fazid, the manager of the store explained, without providing his last name.

Several economists and researchers predict that President Donald Trump would win the 2020 election, according to a report by Politico.

The report, written by Politico’s Ben White and Steven Shepard, cited multiple economic models that claim Trump would “likely ride to a second term in a huge landslide.”

One researcher, Donald Luskin, who is the chief investment officer for TrendMacrolytics, said in an interview with Politico that “the economy is just so damn strong right now and by all historic precedent the incumbent should run away with it.”

Luskin predicted Trump’s win in 2016 based on his economic models. An economist, Ray Fair of Yale also predicted Trump’s victory in 2016 according to this type of economic model.

Fair predicts that Trump will win the 2020 election with 54 percent of the popular vote while the Democrats will only garner 46 percent, according to the Politico interview. (RELATED: Michael Moore Predicts Trump Wins In 2020 If Dems Run Politician Against Him)

Fair is a pioneer in this type of election forecasting, using a formula model to predict the outcomes of elections.

Fair’s model states that presidential incumbents have an advantage in an election and that the state of the economy also affects the outcome of an election. He also says that voters are less likely to vote for a party that has held the White House for two terms.

The report also included Mark Zandi, who is the chief economist for Moody’s Analytics, who also predicted that Trump would win in 2020.

According to the Politico piece, Zandi tested 12 different economic models for the upcoming presidential race. He says Trump won all 12, and was “quite comfortable in most of them.”

Zandi has also been a critic of Trump stating that he thinks the U.S. economy under Trump “is a trainwreck waiting to happen,” and has criticized the president’s immigration policy. (RELATED: Economists Predict Recession Durin 2020 Election)

In Zandi’s models, he uses gas prices, unemployment, other political variables and popularity, as well as looking at economic factors on the state level to forecast the outcome of the election, as reported by Politico.

Democratic 2020 presidential candidate and former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper questioned why female 2020 candidates weren’t being asked if they would consider male running mates.

Asked by Dana Bash if he would vow to put a woman on his presidential ticket, John Hickenlooper replied, “Of course,” and then said, “How come we’re not asking, more often, the women, ‘Would you be willing to put a man on the ticket?’” #CNNTownHall pic.twitter.com/AC7hWtyZ7D

CNN’s Dana Bash asked Hickenlooper at a presidential town hall Wednesday, “Governor, some of your male competitors have vowed to put a woman on the ticket. Yes or no, would you do the same?” (RELATED: Former Colorado Governor Joins Growing List Of 2020 Dem Hopefuls)

“Of course,” Hickenlooper replied. He then proceeded to ask Bash a question of his own: “How come we’re not asking more often the women: ‘Would you be willing to put a man on the ticket?’”

His question was met with silence from the audience.

“When we get to that point, I’ll ask you that question,” Bash responded.

A spokesperson for Hickenlooper, Lauren Hitt, addressed criticism towards the Hickenlooper’s question on Twitter, attempting to clarify Hickenlooper’s intended arguement, “Making the point that the media too often discounts the chances of women winning the nomination themselves.” (RELATED: Is There A Place For Moderate John Hickenlooper In A Democratic Party That Embraces The Green New Deal?)

Several other male Democratic 2020 presidential candidates have encountered the same question regarding their vice president selection.

When asked if he would consider a female running mate, former Democratic Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke said, “That would be my preference.”

Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders expressed that he will be looking for a young female candidate upon announcement of his 2020 presidential bid.

“I think we would look for somebody who is maybe not of the same gender that I am, and maybe someone who might be a couple of years younger than me, and somebody who can take the progressive banner as vice president and carry it all over this county,” Sanders said to the Young Turks. “I’m not going to box myself in, but should I become [the presidential nominee], you know I’ll be looking to women first.” Sanders continued.

New Jersey Democratic Sen. Cory Booker stated outright that “there will be a woman on the ticket,” to reporters last week.

The video has received over 500,000 views as of the publication of this piece.

Oliver the steer is trained by Browning to compete in rodeos and other shows. Even though his specific weight is unknown, African Watusi bulls can weigh up to 1,600 pounds, according to Fox News.

Oliver has his own Facebook page where Browning posts photos of the bull and announces places where Oliver is making appearances around the Houston area.

PJ Media senior editor Tyler O’Neil joined Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Wednesday to discuss racism at the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Morris Dees, the group’s co-founder, was abruptly fired last week for failing to meet “the mission of the organization and the values we hope to instill in the world,” according to a statement from SPLC President Richard Cohen to The Daily Caller News Foundation.

Carlson noted Dees’ firing “under mysterious circumstances” and the irony that a group that often falsely labels others as “racist, sexist bigots” would be accused of those things itself.

WATCH:

“This group has been rotten for years,” said Carlson. “Why are people just now noticing?”

“The story actually is really, really bad,” said O’Neil. “You had 13 black former employees of the SPLC interviewed. Twelve of them said they witnessed racist incidents in their time there and three of them called the organization a plantation for its black workers.”

Dees’ firing was first reported by the Montgomery Advertiser, which included a reference to its 1994 series on racism within the organization and the co-founder’s “near singular control over the organization and its mammoth budget.”

The series, a Pulitzer Prize finalist, revealed a figure seen as heroic by some and single-minded by others. Dees’ critics said he was more concerned with fundraising than litigating.

The series also alleged discriminatory treatment of black employees within the advocacy group, despite its outward efforts to improve the treatment of minorities in the country. Staffers at the time “accused Morris Dees, the center’s driving force, of being a racist and black employees have ‘felt threatened and banded together.’” The organization denied the accusations raised in the series.

O’Neil noted that it wasn’t just the Advertiser, but also former employees who went to Glassdoor.com to “talk about their experiences facing racial discrimination” in 2017. (RELATED: Southern Poverty Law Center Is Not So Poor)

“There are apparently 100 lawyers and advocates of the SPLC,” he noted. “Only five of them are black. Black employees worked there 12 years and yet, none of them were elevated to senior leadership.”

The PJ Media editor added that if the group “hires more black leaders,” since “blacks tend to be more Christian” perhaps they would stop characterizing Christian groups as anti-LGBT.

The pink crosses were a part of Students For Life’s #PlannedParenthoodTruth Tour, in which the pro-life organization tours college campuses to spread the word about “Planned Parenthood’s poor track record on helping women,” according to the Students for Life website.

At around 12:50 p.m., Kaylena Wiederhold, Students for Life’s Michigan regional coordinator, approached the people who were vandalizing the arrangement, asking why they were stealing Students for Life’s property. “Is there a reason why you’re doing this?” Wiederhold asked the purple-haired girl.

“Because we disagree with it,” she said plainly.

She then continues to contest the fact that the crosses in the display are Students for Life’s property, refusing to stop throwing them away.

She only complies after being instructed by campus police to stop what she is doing and return the crosses to Students for Life. In response, she dumps her trash bag full of crosses on the ground and walked away, refusing to put the crosses back where she found them.

The Mississippi police officer who left her three-year-old daughter strapped in a hot car so she could have sex with her supervisor pleaded guilty to manslaughter Monday.

Former Mississippi Gulf Coast officer Cassie Barker left her daughter, Cheyenne, inside her patrol car for four hours on Sept. 30, 2016 after falling asleep post-sex, she admitted Monday. Authorities say the infant’s body temperature rose to 107 degrees and died. (RELATED: Six hours later, toddler dead after Dallas teacher left her in sizzling car)

Barker pleaded down to reduced charges of manslaughter after she was first indicted for second degree murder.

“I don’t know what I could ever do to you that could be worse than what you’ve already experienced,” Harrison County Circuit Judge Larry Bourgeois told Barker. “You will forever be entombed in a prison of your own mind.”

Barker and the other officer, Clark Ladner, who was her supervisor at the time, were immediately fired following Cheyenne’s death. Ladner claimed he was unaware Cheyenne was in the car and was consequently not charged in her death.

This was not the first time Barker had left Cheyenne in the car alone, the Sun Herald reported. Ryan Hyer, Cheyenne’s father, believes Mississippi Child Protective Services and the police department failed to act appropriately to protect his daughter and filed lawsuits against the organizations.

“As a parent, you are supposed to protect your child, and Cheyenne is gone because her mother didn’t protect her, not once but twice,” Hyer said. “May God have mercy on her soul.”

The Hancock County sheriff’s department told The Daily Caller News Foundation that Barker will be sentenced on April 1, and can receive up to 20 years in prison.

The Washington Post offered Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan a platform to express his opinion Tuesday for the second time in less than five months, despite the unparalleled number of journalists imprisoned by his government.

Sixty-eight journalists are imprisoned in Turkey, more than any other country in the world, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ). Nevertheless, in an op-ed entitled “The New Zealand killer and the Islamic State are cut from the same cloth,” Erdogan used WaPo as a soapbox from which to scold Western nations for failing to adequately distinguish Islam from terrorism.

Likening the New Zealand mosque shooter to radical Islamic terrorists, Erdogan maintained that the shooter’s motives were a distortion of Christianity and admonished that the world “must establish that there is absolutely no difference between the murderer who killed innocent people in New Zealand and those who have carried out terrorist acts in Turkey, France, Indonesia and elsewhere.” (EXCLUSIVE: A Look Inside Andrew Brunson’s Harrowing Turkish Courtroom Experience)

“Unfortunately, Islamophobia and xenophobia, among other practices incompatible with liberal values, were met with silence in Europe and other parts of the Western world,” he continued. “We cannot afford to allow this again. If the world wants to prevent future assaults similar to the one in New Zealand, it must start by establishing that what happened was the product of a coordinated smear campaign.”

Erdogan’s op-ed was a continuation of sentiments he expressed last week at the funeral of a Turkish minister, where he condemned the entire world — and the West, especially — for rising Islamophobia and racism.

“With this attack, hostility towards Islam, that the world has been idly watching and even encouraging for some time, has gone beyond individual harassment to reach the level of mass killing,” he said, according to Turkey’s Hurriyet Daily News. (RELATED: Erdogan Uses New Zealand Mosque Shootings To Condemn World For ‘Hostility’ To Islam)

The Post, which uses the slogan “Democracy Dies in Darkness,” also published Erdogan in a Nov. 2, 2018, op-ed that condemned Saudi Arabia for the murder of journalist and WaPo columnist Jamal Khashoggi.

“Erdogan makes a solid point that all murderers or terrorists of innocent people should be treated alike and equally condemned,” said Jeffrey McCall, a communications professor at DePauw University who specializes in journalism ethics. “Letting Erdogan come off as all righteous, however, given his track record of curtailing free expression in his own country, is quite unnecessary.”

“It was a curious move when the Post gave Erdogan op-ed space last fall in the wake of the Khashoggi murder, but a case could be made at that time because the assassination took place in Turkey,” McCall continued. “There is no particular need now to give Erdogan a platform to broadly criticize other governments and suggesting the West is normalizing extremism.” (RELATED: Turkey’s Erdogan Wants Twitter To Silence American Critic)

“The Post, in a sense, seems to be giving Erdogan a legitimacy that is undeserved, given his own record on human rights and the many other measured voices that are available to weigh in on such a serious topic,” he added.

Shortly after the 2016 presidential election, WaPo executive editor Martin Baron used Erdogan as an example of the possible dangers that could befall American journalists under President Donald Trump. In remarks delivered at a Manhattan dinner party upon winning an award, Baron quoted CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, saying:

This is how it goes with authoritarians like Sisi, Erdogan, Putin, the Ayatollahs, Duterte, et al. … First the media is accused of inciting, then sympathizing, then associating—until they suddenly find themselves accused of being full-fledged terrorists and subversives. Then they end up in handcuffs, in cages, in kangaroo courts, in prison — and then who knows?

“When the press is under attack, we cannot always count on our nation’s institutions to safeguard our freedoms—not even the courts,” Baron then warned, adding, “Many journalists wonder with considerable weariness what it is going to be like for us during the next four — perhaps eight — years. Will we be incessantly harassed and vilified? Will the new administration seize on opportunities to try intimidating us? Will we face obstruction at every turn? If so, what do we do?” (RELATED: Koppel: NYT And WaPo Not What They Used To Be Thanks To Trump Vendetta)

Baron went on to emphasize the importance of “holding the most powerful to account,” and that failing to do so raises the question, “If we do not do that, then what exactly is the purpose of journalism?”

WaPo did not respond to The Daily Caller’s request for comment.

The White House is strongly condemning New York City after it says sanctuary city policies led to the release of an illegal immigrant who later bit off the finger of an ICE agent trying to apprehend him.

“New York’s dangerous ‘sanctuary’ policies are directly responsible for the egregious and violent harm suffered by this courageous ICE officer,” White House deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley said in a statement to The Daily Caller.

A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) spokeswoman explained to The Daily Caller that Dominican national Christopher Santos Felix “entered the United States on a visitor’s visa in June 2015, but failed to leave within the required timeframe.” Felix then racked up a litany of criminal charges, including driving while intoxicated, before he was arrested for assault by the New York City Police Department on Sept 29, 2018. (RELATED: NYC Council Passes ‘Abolish ICE’ Resolution)

The ICE spokeswoman continued that they requested a detainer be put on Felix so that he could be taken into federal custody, but as a result of New York City’s sanctuary city policies, he was then let go.

“On March 3, 2019, Santos Felix was arrested by ERO for immigration violations. At the time of the arrest, Santos Felix allegedly assaulted an ERO officer and is now facing federal prosecution,” the spokeswoman said.

ICE agent’s hand

The spokeswoman added, “the officer’s injury was the direct, foreseeable and entirely avoidable result of New York’s criminal alien sanctuary policies. Proponents of sanctuary policies claim they make communities safer, but in many cases they are causing more harm than good.”

The criminal complaint against Felix reviewed by the Caller notes that he attacked ICE officers after his handcuffs were temporarily removed so that he could put on some clothing. Officers quickly moved to secure Felix and while they were restraining him, he bit the officer’s finger.

A well-off California couple allegedly paid roughly $250,000 in Facebook stock to have their daughter admitted to UCLA as a soccer recruit.

Lauren Isackson is listed on the 2017 UCLA women’s soccer team roster, despite no record of her having any playing time, according to a report published Wednesday by the Los Angeles Times. Lauren never played soccer before being admitted to UCLA as a recruit for the elite women’s team.

Lauren’s parents, Bruce and Davina, have both been charged in the same nation-wide college admissions scandal that Hollywood actresses Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman were charged in. (RELATED: Olivia Jade Allegedly Didn’t Fill Out Her Own College Applications)

Bruce and Davina allegedly paid the Facebook shares to college admissions scammer Rick Singer. Singer then created a fake soccer recruit profile and paid off former college coaches in order to get Lauren admitted to UCLA, according to court papers.

The team Lauren was “recruited” to was considered the second-best recruiting class in the nation and her teammates included the top recruit in the country and a member of the Canadian national team.

UCLA spokesperson Tod Tamberg told the Los Angeles Times that he was not able to speak on individual students but said that UCLA athletic teams were composed of “student athletes with varying levels of athletic achievements.”

The United States sees roughly 3 million deaths per year. How many of those deaths come from gun violence? How many come from other fatal illnesses and accidents?

Recently, debate regarding gun violence has taken over the media, with many news outlets relating mass shootings and other violent, gun-related incidents to the United States’ gun laws, gun statistics and Second Amendment rights.

While violent crime in the United States has been on a steady decline since the early 1990s, a large number of Americans, including children, have fallen victim to gun violence. As much as 80-percent of gun-related deaths, however, are carried out with illegally purchased firearms. There is also no clear relation between stricter gun laws and less gun-related homicides. (RELATED: Beto Takes One Question On Guns — Gives An Answer Both Sides Will Hate)

Politicians are still going after Second Amendment regulations with the hope to decrease that 3-million-person death toll. What other causes of death could they be concerned with? What do you think kills more Americans?

Find out the most common cause of death below.

Heart Disease

According to the Center for Disease Control, Heart Disease is the number one killer of Americans in 2017. Around 610,000 people die each year from heart disease.

Strokes

Strokes or a blood clot in the brain is the fifth leading cause of death in the United States and is responsible for 140,000 deaths every year in America. This equates to 1-in-20 deaths in America are from a stroke.

Drugs

Around 64,000 people a year a killed due to drug-related causes. According to Vox, drug-related deaths outnumber those of guns, car crashes, and even every death that occurred during the Vietnam War.

Car Accidents

Deaths by car accidents exceeded 40,00 people in 2017 rounding out to 40,100 deaths due to car accidents.

Guns

In 2017, guns caused 39, 773 deaths. However, 60 percent of that number comes from suicides while 30 percent were the result of homicide.

Infamous abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell is upset that more states are not considering late-term abortion laws like the ones passed in New York, and introduced in Virginia, according to an email obtained by The Daily Caller.

Gosnell expressed regret in the email sent from prison that “rural, conservative” Pennsylvania would likely not consider similar laws legalizing abortion up until birth. The piece of communication was part of correspondence between Gosnell and film directors of the movie “Gosnell,” and it’s veracity was verified by the Caller.

Screenshot Via The Daily Caller

Gosnell was convicted of first degree murder in 2013 after killing infants that survived his failed abortions, as well as involuntary manslaughter after a woman died in his care. (RELATED: ‘House Of Horrors’ Abortion Clinic Site To Be Auctioned Off In 2019)

Following his conviction, Gosnell claimed that his murderous practices would be “vindicated.”

“It helps that I very strongly believe myself to be innocent of the heinous crimes of which I am accused,” Gosnell said at the time. “I sort of understand the circumstances and I continue to feel optimistic of the eventual outcome … the vindication of what I’ve done, why I’ve done it and how—[it] will all become accepted within my lifetime. It’s out of sight and out of my control. But I feel strongly that that will occur.”

Now, a few years later, the state of New York has passed a law that allows doctors to perform abortions up until the infant’s due date, and similar laws have been considered in several other states.

Earlier this year, when Democratic Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam suggested that babies in the dilation stage would be subject to a discussion between the doctor and the mother, some saw the comments as a fulfillment of Gosnell’s prophecy. (RELATED: Gov Northam: ‘I Don’t Have Any Regrets’ About Infanticide Comments)

Is Gosnell close to being vindicated?

Phelim McAleer, who along with Ann McElhinney wrote and produced the documentary “Gosnell,” based on the true story, questions if Gosnell would be convicted today.

“Ralph Northam put Gosnell into a grey area,” McAleer said. “Ralph Northam showed it was Ok for a baby to die after a botched abortion.”

While Northam’s comments don’t go as far as Gosnell’s actions did, McAleer fears his comments could create reasonable doubt in the mind of a jury if a similar case popped up today.

“Previously, it had been accepted that a baby that survived an abortion could not be killed either by action or inaction,” McAleer said. “Northam’s comments would put doubt in the mind of a jury, the New York law puts doubt in the mind in jury.”

Democratic New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker opened up about his newly confirmed relationship with actress and singer Rosario Dawson during his Wednesday appearance on “The Ellen Show.”

Dawson got “TMZ-ed,” as Booker put it, last week and confirmed to the entertainment website that she is, in fact, in a relationship with the New Jersey senator. (RELATED: Rosairo Dawson Confirms She’s Dating Cory Booker)

Booker had equally great things to say about Dawson, who gushed about Booker’s kind personality to TMZ. “[Her confirmation] was wonderful. She’s just an incredible human being,” Booker told Ellen DeGeneres.

Booker announced he would be running in the 2020 presidential race on Feb. 1, two months after the pair reportedly began dating, according to Page Six.

The announcement has reportedly caused an increase in the scrutiny Booker and Dawson have been dealing with lately.

“As our relationship grows, it’s difficult, but she’s just a deeply soulful person and has taught me a lot of lessons about love already. And sometimes you show the greatest strength when you make yourself vulnerable,” Booker told DeGeneres.

He continued, “She really has this nurturing spirit that’s made me more courageous not just in the love I project and want to see in our country but even in our personal relationships to love more fearlessly, so I’m very blessed to be with someone who makes me a better person.”

U.S. Border Patrol agents nabbed three criminal illegal aliens Tuesday — two trying to enter the United States through Arizona and a third at a California crossing.

Avilia Rosales, one of the two illegal border crossers caught in Arizona, has a criminal record for child molestation. The other, Arturo Benjamin Avila Torres, has been convicted for assault with a firearm and for “lascivious acts with a minor under 14,” according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CPB) as reported by the Washington Examiner.

Both men will be prosecuted for illegal immigration, according to the CPB. Border patrol agents are increasingly using biometric assessments of suspects to “ensure illegal aliens with criminal histories are positively identified.” (RELATED: Illegal Arrested In Murder Case Had Long Criminal Record But Was Not Deported)

The third criminal illegal, Alberto Martinez Flores, was stopped at the Calexico, California, border crossing. According to a CBP news release, Flores has a long criminal record dating back a decade. He was convicted of assault, strangulation and unlawful imprisonment and sent to jail. In 2017, Flores was again convicted for vehicular assault and sent to prison for 13 months. Flores has been deported at least once.

Flores said he intended to travel to Los Angeles and live there if he had successfully eluded capture, according to the CBP.

“Our agents were able to arrest Martinez without incident,” said Assistant Chief Patrol Agent David Kim. “This man’s criminal history clearly shows how dangerous he is and now he’s off the streets thanks to our agents’ hard work and diligence.” (RELATED: San Jose Police Officer: Sanctuary Laws Need To Be Changed Immediately)

The Department of Defense released guidelines Wednesday concerning transgender service members, which indicate that people require a waiver to serve if they have gender dysphoria.

WATCH:

The effort isn’t exactly new. Some liberal states and cities have tried to give 16- and 17-year-olds the right to vote, but the efforts failed.
Now those who support this effort will say that 16-year-olds are “mature” enough to make a decision on who should run our country. But, at the same time, they will say these teens aren’t mature enough to purchase a gun or join the military.

Interesting how that works.

A deployed father of six gave his youngest son, Luca, the surprise of a lifetime Monday.

U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Rob Cesternino, who had been serving a 10-month with the Tennessee National Guard in Kuwait, Jordan, and southern Syria since May of 2018, arranged to surprise his nine-year-old son four days before he was expected home, WSMV News reports. Cesternino says he’s talked to Luca every two weeks since being deployed.

At Luca’s taekwondo practice session Monday night, the nine-year-old was told he would be sparring with three different instructors while blindfolded. What he didn’t know was that while he was sparring with the third instructor, his dad would jump in and take the instructor’s place.

When Cesternino entered the match, Luca continued to punch in the direction of his dad until Cesternino spoke and the realization suddenly came to him. In the video, Luca rips off his blindfold and throws his arms around Cesternino.

“You were such a big boy when I was gone. I’m so proud of you,” Cesternino told Luca, according to WSMV. “We don’t give enough thought to how tough it is on the families we leave behind.”

Cesternino’s five other children are older and live away from home. His oldest daughter’s enlistment in the U.S. Air Force ends in May.

“She’s coming back home,” Cesternino said in a video by Lebanon Democrat. “She’s going to school in Knoxville [to] finish her degree.” Cesternino went on to explain that his daughter works in diagnostic imagery, or radiology, at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He also has a son who was in the Coast Guard and a son who was in the Navy.

“We’re a military family,” he continued. “My family has served every single generation dating back to WWI. It’s just expected in my family. I tell people the military’s a family business . . . . It’s just expected that you wear the uniform of your country. Again, you don’t have to make it a career. My oldest son wasn’t into picking up a rifle, so he joined the Coast Guard, and he learned to clean up oil spills. The service — it’s important.”

Temple University has been tied to at least 54 confirmed or probable mumps cases on campus — the most the city has seen since 2011, according to NBC News.

Jumping from a count of 28 cases last week, the new record-setting total was reported by a spokesman for the Philadelphia Department of Health on Monday. The university, through confirmed testing, now has 12 people who contracted the disease with an additional 42 others who are considered “probable cases.” (RELATED: 178 Immigrant Detainees In Texas Suffering From Mumps)

The Department of Public Health for Philadelphia noted earlier in March that a “waning effectiveness” of the mumps vaccination may have had a part in the outbreak. While unvaccinated people were not directly attributed to the outbreak, the university changed its immunization policy for incoming students as concerns grew.

The new policy requires students to have multiple vaccines including two doses of MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), two doses of Varicella (chicken pox) and one dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) within 10 years.

The outbreak is expected to stop increasing in number as health officials are being told to “treat the virus instead of testing,” according to spokesman James Garrow. (RELATED: States Push For Laxer Vaccine Regulations Amid Worst Measles Outbreak In Years)

Symptoms of the contagious disease, which currently has no cure, including fatigue, fever and swollen salivary glands. Symptoms of mumps, a disease spread through saliva and respiratory secretions, normally do not appear until 16 to 18 days after exposure.

Due to the close contact of multiple people, college campuses are a common place for outbreaks to occur, said Garrow.

Democratic 2020 candidates will participate in a presidential debate focused solely on LGBTQ issues.

The event, which will be hosted by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC) and the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs, is scheduled for October 10, 2019, at UCLA’s Royce Hall on the eve of National Coming Out Day.

According to Advocate, the debate will prompt discussions on “conversion therapy” restrictions, hate crime retribution and transgender rights. (RELATED: Mother Arrested, Spends Seven Hours In Jail For Calling Transgender A Man)

HRC President Chad Griffin stressed the importance of 2020 Democratic candidates addressing LGBTQ issues, saying, “Millions of LGBTQ people will have their rights on the ballot in 2020 — but today, we are also a powerful voting bloc that will help determine the outcome.”

He continued, “If any LGBTQ person were to take a cross-country drive from HRC headquarters in Washington, D.C., to UCLA’s campus, their rights and protections under the law would change dozens of times at every city line and state border.”

The organizers of the event will be using the same rules as Democratic National Committee sanctioned debates, where candidates are required to receive at least 1 percent of the vote in three national polls or receive 65,000 donations from people in 20 sates to qualify for participation.

Given these rules and the most recent polling data, Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker, Beto O’Rourke, John Hickenlooper and Amy Klobuchar would constitute the qualifying Democratic candidates. Pete Buttigieg, the Mayor of South Bend, Indiana, is the only LGBTQ Democrat who has expressed serious interest in a 2020 presidential candidacy. White House social media director Dan Scavino Jr. was temporarily blocked from making public Facebook comments on Monday evening.

Scavino posted a screenshot of the ban with the caption, “Dear Facebook
AMAZING. WHY ARE YOU STOPPING ME from replying to comments followers have left me – on my own Facebook Page!!?? People have the right to know. Why are you silencing me??? Please LMK! Thanks.”

The ban itself claimed that “some of your comments have been reported as spam,” and that “to avoid getting blocked again,” he should “make sure your posts are in line with the Facebook Community Standards.”

The message from Facebook does not specify which comments were flagged or what standard they had violated.

Facebook has recently faced accusations of censoring individuals, the majority of whom are conservatives, but not exclusively. Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren has advocated for breaking up what she believes is Facebook and Amazon’s monopoly. Her ads which called for splitting up the social media monopoly on Facebook were briefly taken down.

Addressing the ban, Donald Trump Jr. tweeted, “As I’ve been saying. This is a disgusting abuse of power, and of course it only goes one way.”

Last month, Facebook briefly deleted two pages for Raheem Kassam, an opinion writer for The Daily Caller and a former chief adviser to United Kingdom Independence Party leader Nigel Farage.

Neither Facebook or Scavino Jr. responded to requests for comment.

The New York University (NYU) student who partly blamed Chelsea Clinton for the New Zealand mosque shootings also expressed her displeasure Monday with Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar for supporting a two-state solution.

NYU senior Leen Dweik quote-tweeted Omar’s tweet, which reads, “When it comes to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, we must fight for self-determination, security and people for both peoples. That’s why I support a two-state solution,” adding that she is “very disappointed w[ith] this, two-state is neither viable nor just.”

Omar’s tweet was a part of a thread detailing her foreign policy stances that she also addressed in a Friday op-ed with The Washington Post.

Dweik was one of the activists who confronted Clinton at the school’s vigil for those killed in New Zealand on Friday, claiming that her rhetoric toward Omar led to the attack. Dweik’s criticism of Clinton was in response to the comments Clinton made against Omar last month after the Minnesota congresswoman accused the pro-Israel lobbying group American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) of buying pro-Israel support.

Clinton tweeted to Omar in response to the accusation, saying, “Co-signed as an American. We should expect all elected officials, regardless of party, and all public figures to not traffic in anti-Semitism.” (RELATED: House Overwhelmingly Approves Motion To Condemn Anti-Semitism Amid Omar Fallout)

A Connecticut public school employee resigned Sunday after a viral video of her spewing racist slurs at a black man by the checkout lines of a RiteAid made its way through the internet.

The woman, Corinne Terrone, can be seen in the video yelling the N-word three times and spitting twice at the recorder, an unnamed black man, who appears to be accompanied by a black woman, the New Haven Register reports. The Hamden Public School District has confirmed that she was a clerk in the central office.

The incident was filmed Friday at an East Haven ShopRite. It starts with Terrone taunting the recorder and pulling out her own phone to record, saying, “Go ahead, I will . . . . Don’t you dare talk to me that way, motherf*****r. . . . Put your hands on me, come on. Put ’em on me. Come on.”

The man, in turn, appears to knock the woman’s phone from her hand after she calls him the N-word but does not make further physical contact based on what can be seen in the video. Terrone then spits in the direction of the man before yelling, “F**k you, n****r.”

Terrone’s two young daughters, who are accompanying their mother in the video, appear scared. One woman can be seen guiding them away from their mother and toward the checkout.

Terrone’s neighbor, a black man who declined to be identified by name, says “he’s never seen Terrone exhibit racist behavior and that his grandchildren often play with her kids,” the New Haven Register reports.

“She’s in a bad situation,” he told the register, adding, “She’s always been the sweetest woman in the world.”

Hamden school administrators filed a Department of Children and Families (DCF) because of the fact that Terrone’s two daughters were present during the incident, according to WFSB News.

The Hamden School district posted a statement that reads:

We have become aware of video footage that appears to show an employee in our district engaged in abhorrent conduct. Specifically, the video appears to show the employee repeatedly calling an African-American man the N-word in a supermarket in East Haven.

The video also appears to show the Hamden employee spitting at the aforementioned African-American male as he was walking away from the employee. It also appears that the employee’s children witnessed her conduct. Because her children were present, school administrators filed a DCF report.

While it appears as though this happened after work hours on Friday evening, the Human Resource Director contacted the employee and arranged an investigatory meeting with her. Shortly after final arrangements were made for the investigatory meeting, the employee rendered her resignation effective immediately.

East Haven Police Lt. Joseph Murgo responded to the incident in a statement, saying:

The East Haven Police Department is aware of this disturbing video and the hate speech contained in it. We are in touch with ShopRite and are looking to get a better understanding of what took place last night. At this time, we have not been contacted by anybody directly involved in this matter.

We are urging any potential victims of last night’s incident to contact us so we can investigate this matter further. Speech like this has no place in today’s society and nobody deserves to be spit at or called racist names. So far, no charges have been filed because as of [Monday] nobody has come forward as a complainant or a victim.

We are currently in consultation with the States Attorney’s Office and are awaiting the final outcome of the DCF’s investigation before we are able to explore criminal charges.

Hamden Mayor Curt B. Leng said, “What I saw was vile and shocking. While I am disgusted and disheartened seeing such hateful behavior, wildly unacceptable anywhere, I am thankful for the swift and effective actions taken by our school system to address this head on and make clear that hate and violence will not be tolerated.”

Organizers of the St. Patrick’s Days celebration in Wright Square in Savannah, Georgia, posted pictures on Facebook of the carnage left by partyers over the weekend.

The images show trash completely covering the ground with city workers and volunteers working to clean up the mess. The post from the “City of Savannah Government St. Patrick’s Festival Info” Facebook page has been shared 1,500 times as of Monday. (RELATED: Why Do Americans Eat Corned Beef On St. Patrick’s Day?)

As many as 300,000 people were expected to have attended the Savannah St. Patrick’s Day parade this year, which was first hosted in the city in 1824.

The city of Savannah attempted to crack down on the amount of litter produced by the St. Patrick’s Day celebration this year, upping the police presence at Chippewa Square, which was the epicenter of the trash problem in recent years. As a result, partyers simply moved to neighboring Wright Square to cause just as much destruction.

Local officials are already making plans to thwart littering at next year’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration. “We know what to do now,” Susan Broker, City Hall’s chief planner for St. Patrick’s Day stated. “We will be implementing some rules throughout the parade area and enforcing those next year. We have 364 days to get this right, and we’re going to.”

Broker says that the city is planning to ban styrofoam coolers at next year’s celebration since they have a tendency to break down into impossibly small fragments difficult to clean. (RELATED: ‘Drink Responsibly’ — GOP Ripped After Dragging Beto O’Rourke In St. Patrick’s Day Tweet)

Savannah Police Chief Roy Minter said that his department made 19 arrests in downtown Savannah and 12 drunk driving arrests during the weekend celebration.

Savannah Mayor Eddie DeLoach thanked the volunteers and city employees who were responsible for cleaning up the mess: “You walked out here the next day and you didn’t even think anybody had been here.”

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) disputed claims Monday that they are refusing medical care for a severely sick infant that is currently being detained with his father at the border.

The claim that ICE is housing a sick infant originated in a tweet thread over the weekend by RAICES, a nonprofit that provides legal services to illegal immigrants. RAICES asserted that they are in contact with a father who said his baby is suffering from “nonstop diarrhea,” “stomach pain” and is unable to eat. The family is allegedly being kept in the Karnes detention center in Texas.

Several Democratic congresswomen tweeted about the child, urging ICE to take the baby to the hospital immediately.

“This is inhumane,” Democratic Texas Rep. Veronica Escobar wrote.

“A child is sick,” Democratic Texas Rep. Sylvia Garcia declared. “We need to know that medical care is being offered. Unacceptable.”

ICE, however, denied that they are in custody of any sick child. (RELATED: Nielsen To Conduct Firsthand Review Of DHS Practices At Border)

In a statement released Monday, ICE indicated that they “completed auxiliary wellness checks over the weekend” to determine if a child exhibiting the aforementioned symptoms was in custody at Karnes.

“ICE officials completed auxiliary wellness checks over the weekend & confirmed that no child currently in custody at the Karnes FRC is exhibiting signs of dehydration, nor was any resident seeking medical attention for a child with the symptoms described in the anonymous reports,” ICE stated.

In August, an immigration lawyer falsely accused ICE of allowing a child to die from respiratory illness in the Dilley Family Detention Center in Texas. After ICE disputed that report, the lawyer updated her claim to indicate that the child died after she left ICE custody. (RELATED: ICE Says Reports About Child Dying In Texas Facility Are False)

The initial warning from the Division of Public Safety and Security read simply, “UM EAlert Ann Arbor: Active shooter in Mason Hall . Run, hide, fight.” (RELATED: Five Dead In Active Shooter Incident In Illinois)

Students responded to the alert by barricading themselves in wherever they happened to be at the time and tweeting to those outside the school asking for updates about the possible shooter’s location.

Shortly thereafter, several outlets reported the “all-clear,” saying that unconfirmed reports of popping balloons may have been what caused the alarm.

Conservatives came to Chelsea Clinton’s defense after a video surfaced of a New York University student verbally berating her on Friday at a vigil to honor the people who died in the New Zealand shooting.

The confrontation took place a day after a man opened fire inside two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand that left at least 49 people dead.

WATCH:

“This right here is the result of the massacre stoked by people like you and the words that you have put out into the world,” one student said to Clinton. “I want you to know that. I want you to feel that deep inside. The 49 people died because of the rhetoric you put out there.”

Clinton, who’s pregnant, responded by apologizing for making the students uncomfortable. The students were angry about her interactions with Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar.

The student was referencing the comments Clinton made about Omar last month after the Minnesota congresswoman accused the pro-Israel lobbying group American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) of buying pro-Israel support(RELATED: House Overwhelmingly Approves Motion To Condemn Anti-Semitism Amid Omar Fallout)

Clinton tweeted to Omar after the accusation, saying, “Co-signed as an American. We should expect all elected officials, regardless of party, and all public figures to not traffic in anti-Semitism.”

The two of them then tweeted to each other, both showing a willingness to discuss Clinton’s discomfort with Omar’s tweet.

The student seemed to suggest that her comments led to an avalanche of criticism against one of the first Muslim congresswomen in Congress. Omar’s comments were widely criticized by members of both political parties, and she eventually apologized and deleted the tweet.

The video of the students confronting Clinton went viral and conservatives like Donald Trump Jr. and Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld tweeted their support of Clinton.

“Fox & Friends” also ran a segment about the confrontation on Saturday with Ed Henry saying she had nothing to apologize for.

Republican Missouri State Rep. Andrew McDaniel proposed legislation that would require every citizen of the state to own an AR-15.

House Bill No. 1108, titled the “McDaniel Militia Act,” would mandate and offer tax credits to every person between the ages of 18 and 34 who is legally allowed to possess a firearm and possesses not just any weapon, but one based on  the ArmaLite, Inc. AR-15 design.

Citizens are given one year to obtain an AR-15 under the bill, and they are only allowed to sell an AR-15 if they own another one. (RELATED: One Of Georgia’s Safest Cities REQUIRES Its Citizens To Own A Gun)

“Every resident of this state shall own at least one AR-15. Any person who qualifies as a resident on August 28, 2019, and who does not own an AR-15 shall have one year to purchase an AR-15,” the bill reads. “Any resident qualifies as a resident after August 28, 2019, and does not own an AR-15 shall purchase an AR-15 no later than one year after qualifying as a resident.”

McDaniel, however, is fully aware that this bill has zero chance of passing. Instead, the Missouri lawmaker hopes to “make a point on mandates in general,” according to Fox4KC.

HB1108, along with another bill that simply requires adults to legally possess a firearm and offers tax credits for doing so, “points out the absurdity of the opposite side” in the gun debate, whose gun control proposals “add more requirements and barriers for law-abiding citizens.” (RELATED: Female VA State Senator Open Carries On House Floor — Calls Gun Her ERA)

McDaniel, a former sheriff’s deputy, simply sees his bills as a way to “get back at them.” Should the bill actually move forward, the lawmaker would strip out the other aspects of the bill and focus on the tax credits, Fox4KC reported.

A group of NYU students confronted Chelsea Clinton on Friday over her recent condemnation of Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, leaving the former first daughter apologizing profusely.

Former Vice President Al Gore likened the “ecological crisis” of climate change to the American Civil War but said this time the stakes are even higher, with the “end of civilization” looming on the horizon.

“What is going on in the public square right now is more important than any time since the Civil War,” Gore told an audience of 2,000 supporters.

“We are facing an ecological crisis that can bring about the end of civilization,” Gore said Thursday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Gore suggested the United States and the world was “crossing an important political tipping point right now.” (RELATED: Al Gore ‘We’re Running Out Of Time On Global Warming’)

The former Democratic presidential candidate is the special guest at Atlanta’s Climate Reality Project that has been organized by local church leaders. Gore was joined by Saturday Night Live’s Pete Davidson, who said the environment is like “a girl you’re in love with who just got engaged to someone else. The situation is dire but there’s still time.”

Gore is hardly the first high-profile climate change proponent to warn of a coming Apocalypse if greenhouse gas emissions are not arrested. At last December’s United Nations Climate Change Conference, celebrity environmentalist Sir David Attenborough warned of “the collapse of civilizations” due to the alleged climate crisis.

The jet-setting Gore cited the Green New Deal, brainchild of New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, as the model for moving forward on climate change action. He then compared the plan, which aims to rid the United States of greenhouse gasses, air travel and cows within a decade, to the nuclear freeze proposals of the 1980s, when many anti-nuclear advocates were recommending unilateral nuclear disarmament. (RELATED: Report: Rep. Ocasio-Cortez Has Violated Her Own Green New Deal)

“It’s similar to the nuclear freeze proposals, because it serves as a vehicle,” Gore insisted.

This past week, the co-founder of the environmental group Greenpeace said the hysteria surrounding climate change was completely unfounded. Patrick Moore said the climate crisis was “not only fake news, it’s fake science.”

Since losing the 2000 presidential race to then-Republican candidate George W. Bush, Gore has dedicated his professional life to global warming and climate change. He won an Academy Award for his 2006 film “An Inconvenient Truth.” The follow-up, “An Inconvenient Sequel” flopped at the box office. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 for his environmental work.

The president of Pitzer College vetoed a resolution to suspend the college’s study abroad program at University of Haifa in Israel on Thursday night after the College Council overwhelming voted in favor of it.

Pitzer President Melvin Oliver announced he would veto the suspension hours after the council’s 67-28 vote.

“I fully respect the actions of the College Council, thus I do not make this decision lightly,” Oliver said in a press release.

“By singling out Israel, the recommendation itself is prejudiced. We do not solve one injustice by committing another. If implemented, the recommendation would unnecessarily alienate a large cross section of the College’s constituencies,” he continued. “The reputational harm to the College would be irreparable and as president of this institution, I cannot permit that to happen.”

Oliver highlighted one of the main complaints with boycotting Israel, and of the boycott, divestment and sanction (BDS) movement, which is that it singles out one country for not living up to a certain set of standards.

Daniel Segal, a professor at Pitzer College, introduced the initial motion to end the program back in November and is one of the most ardent supporters to end it. (RELATED: University of Michigan Denounces Professor That Allegedly Refused To Write Letter Of Recommendation For Israel Program)

“This shows a failure to appreciate that Palestinians are our fellow human beings, and a contempt for the college’s democratic process,” Segal said, according to The Student Life, a student run newspaper. “Because of the divisiveness of the president’s actions and his betrayal of the college’s core values, the president is doing grievous damage to the college I love and have served for 32 years.”

Earlier this week, Segal tweeted a photo of Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib posing with a #SuspendPitzerHaifa pamphlet.

“We regret today’s vote by the Pitzer College Council to uphold the Pitzer faculty’s misguided plan to boycott the college’s relationship with University of Haifa,” University of Haifa President Prof. Ron Robin said in a statement to The Daily Caller. “While such proponents of the BDS movement in the academic community utilize a free speech argument to justify boycotts of Israeli institutions, those who support these votes at Pitzer are actually undermining academic freedom and free speech by depriving students of their freedom to choose where to study abroad.”

Democratic Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib is supporting a college movement to suspend the school’s study abroad program in Israel.

Students and professors at Pitzer College in California are pushing the school’s administration to halt the program in Haifa, Israel until the Middle Eastern country meets demands set by the organizers.

Daniel Segal, a professor at Pitzer College, tweeted a photo of Tlaib posing with a #SuspendPitzerHaifa pamphlet earlier this week. He brought the initial motion to end the program back in November, according to student-run newspaper The Student Life.

The motion reads, “The Pitzer Faculty calls for the suspension of the College’s exchange with Haifa University, until (a) the Israeli state ends its restrictions on entry to Israel based on ancestry and/or political speech and (b) the Israeli state adopts policies granting visas for exchanges to Palestinian universities on a fully equal basis as it does to Israeli universities.”

A vote scheduled for Thursday by both students and faculty will determine whether or not the resolution will go to the Board of Trustees and Pitzer College President Melvin Oliver. If the vote passes, it will be up to them to make a final decision on the Haifa abroad program.

Tlaib, the first Palestinian American woman elected to Congress, has made headlines with comments she’s made about the Israel-Palestine conflict. She was one of the first members of Congress to publicly state her support for the boycott, divestment and sanction (BDS) movement.

Some view the BDS movement as anti-Semitic because it seeks to penalize Israel for their treatment of Palestinians, though it does not seek to do so for any nation other than the Jewish state.

Pitzer College President Melvin Oliver pointed out the double standard that some perceive in the movement, saying, “Why would we not suspend our program with China? Or take our longest standing program in Nepal where the Pitzer in Nepal program has been run for over 40 years, During that time, they have had a bloody civil war that killed 19,000 people. Why Israel?” according to The Student Life.

Neither Segal or Oliver responded to request for comment.

Wildlife officials determined Thursday that “humane euthanasia” was the only option for the bald eagle rescued from the Washington, D.C., metro tracks Wednesday evening.

In a melancholy thread posted on Twitter, City Wildlife explained the bird’s sad predicament.

“After a thorough examination, review of the x–rays, and consultations with other wildlife veterinarians, the opinion of the experts is unanimous and sad: the multiple fractures in the bird’s wing cannot be repaired and humane euthanasia is the only responsible option,” wrote the only wildlife rehabilitation center in Washington, D.C. (RELATED: Injured National Bird Snarls Traffic In National Capital)

“We would, of course, had loved to have saved this bird, but the injuries were too severe,” they continued.

“Our built-up environment makes life convenient and pleasant for us, but in so many ways it makes survival difficult for wild animals, who have evolved to live in a very different world. The eagle is, tragically, another victim whose life ended too soon,” City Wildlife concluded plaintively.

The injured bald eagle snarled rush hour traffic Wednesday evening when it was discovered on the metro tracks near Morgan Boulevard, the second-to-last stop on blue/silver line that terminates in Largo, Maryland. Traffic was diverted north to New Carrollton, Maryland, until the bird could be reached by an eight-man rescue team.

Watching pornography and playing video games are two activities that correlate with poor relationship quality, according to the Insititute for Family Studies.

Focusing on cohabiting and married men as the participants, the institute wanted to find out what online activities affected an individual’s relationship happiness and quality. Studying pornography, video games and social media were the three online activities, the institute found that only the first two yielded results in men but not women. (RELATED: Bebe Rexha’s Dad Tells Her To Stop Posting ‘Stupid Pornography’ On Her Instagram)

The survey found that 22 percent of cohabiting men and 11 percent of married men cited porn as one of their top-three activities. Compared to men who did put porn in their top three, the porn-viewers were 15 percentage points less likely to “report being ‘very satisfied’ in their relationship.”

Looking to explain why the dissatisfaction occurred, the institute gave three reasons for why this could be with one being that men turn to porn to compensate for already being in unhappy relationships. Secondly, the online porn viewed by these men could have given them a “new standard for comparison,” such as porn stars, which could have decreased  “the perceptions of their real-life intimacy.” (RELATED: Porn Star Mercedes Carrera Appears In Court On Charges Of Sexually Abusing Minor)

The institute also explains that online porn “may result in sex becoming more about men’s own physical pleasure and less about the emotional aspect of sex,” which could then decrease men’s satisfaction in a relationship.

Similar to porn, video games proved to be just as negative in these men’s relationships. Of the more than 1,000 men surveyed, 25 percent put gaming in their top three activities which also resulted in them being 10 percentage points less likely to report being “very satisfied” in their relationship compared to those who did not put it in their top three. (RELATED: China Bans World’s Most Popular Video Games)

One explanation of the negative effect stems from video games acting as compensation for dissatisfying relationships.

“Relatedly, men who are facing emotional or mental health issues might turn to gaming as a form of avoidance,” the report reads. “Emotional and mental health issues are also associated with decreased relationship happiness.”

Additionally, a spouse’s or partner’s complaints about their online gaming use could also lead to dissatisfaction. (RELATED: PA Lawmaker Proposes 10% Tax On Violent Video Games To Fund School Safety)

The institute recognized the limitations of the survey, however, citing that frequency data on each activity would have been more precise than “just noting whether they were in men’s top three online activities.”

“In spite of these limitations, these findings do suggest that, for men, the type of online activity is more important than the amount of time spent—at least when it comes to relationship quality,” the report reads. “That is, what men do online is more important to their relationship quality than how much time they spend there. In particular, these findings suggest that gaming and pornography may raise red flags for men’s relationships.”

Schroeder began the caption with a nod to her first career in Hollywood. “For 22 years, I’ve played dress up for a living,” she said. “As an actress I’ve been kidnapped, gone blind, nearly eaten by lions and murdered on more than one occasion. I tormented Lizzie McGuire’s little brother on the Disney channel, was a dolphin trainer, the first female soccer player on an all-boys team and Harrison Ford once rescued me during an intense home invasion.”

“That’s exciting and all, but in January I decided to raise my right hand and swear into the United States Army,” she continued.

For 22 years, I’ve played dress up for a living. As an actress I’ve been kidnapped, gone blind, nearly eaten by lions and murdered on more than one occasion. I tormented Lizzie McGuire’s little brother on the Disney channel, was a dolphin trainer, the first female soccer player on an all boys team and Harrison Ford once rescued me during an intense home invasion. . That’s exciting and all, but in January I decided to raise my right hand and swear into the United States Army. With a college degree from @callutheran in Criminal Justice, an ASVAB score of 92, and qualifying PFTs… I was accepted into Army #OCS (Officer Candidate School). . There are three BIG reasons (among many others) why I am taking a break from Hollywood to #goarmy . 1. College opened my eyes to global injustices. But on a more tangible micro level, there is human trafficking occurring within the United States. I’ve written papers, spread awareness and as an Army Officer I intend to learn skills I can later apply when I’m on a team helping these victims. . 2. Serving my country will give my voice more validity. I can better serve and advocate for veterans once I am a part of their community. The military is a family and family always has each others back. . 3. My brother is a Marine and my Papa was a Green Beret… There is no way I am going to let the boys have all the fun. #hooah #actresstoarmy #startedondisneynowimhere ????????‍♀️ . Thank you to my big brothers who teach, encourage and support me. I’ll make you proud. ♥️ @hunter_schroede0372 @claskytac @greenlinetactical @longhighwayhome @garand_thumb @tyler_hughes_ss

The actress went on to explain that she intended to use her service to fight human trafficking and help the veterans in her own community — something she said she would be better able to do once she was truly a part of that community.

People complain about socialism leading to the destruction of entire nations and starvation of their entire populations, often leading to genocide and otherwise being completely impractical.

Capitalism, however, has obviously the real problem we should be focusing our efforts on removing from society completely. From rapid technology development to jobs to efficient, new ideas, capitalism has imposed greed and sin upon humanity since Adam Smith first wrote his famous inquiry, “The Wealth of Nations.”

While many will argue that there are many tangible benefits capitalism has brought the world, communism offers a more abstract and the wishful thinking outlook toward the future. While capitalism has succeeded in theory and in practice, socialism hasn’t had a chance to be executed properly in America (yet)!

Just imagine a world in which New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez’s Green New Deal was being practiced by the entire country: no farting cows, no carbon emissions, no cars or planes. A green dream!

While Capitalism might “save lives,” “improve general quality of life,” and present people with “opportunities to express themselves” in the “free market,” it is also led to many problems. Take a look at some of the worst below. (RELATED: Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Says Capitalism Will ‘Not Always Exist’)

The inhabitants of a “Muslim extremist” compound in New Mexico were indicted on terrorism, kidnapping, and firearm violation charges Thursday.

A federal grand jury returned a superseding indictment against Jany Leveille, 36, Siraj Ibn Wahhaj, 40, Hujrah Wahhaj, 38, Subhanah Wahhaj, 36, and Lucas Morton, 41, according to a press release from the Department of Justice.

The defendants are accused of operating a training ground on the compound in Albuquerque, New Mexico that prepared followers to carry out attacks against FBI agents, government officials, and military personnel.

“The indictment alleges that the defendants conspired to provide material support in preparation for violent attacks against federal law enforcement officers and members of the military,” said Assistant Attorney General Demers.  “Advancing beliefs through terror and violence has no place in America, and the National Security Division continues to make protecting against terrorism its top priority.”

The New Mexico compound first garnered national attention in August when prosecutors alleged Siraj Ibn Wahhaj, the son of a prominent Brooklyn imam and one of the compound leaders, was training 11 children at the location to commit school shootings. Law enforcement officials described the compound leaders as “extremist Muslims” who were stockpiling weapons and training children to carry out Jihad against the United States. (RELATED: Son Of Prominent Imam Training Children To Commit School Shootings, Claims Prosecutor)

Authorities raided the compound in August and found “squalid” conditions along with the remains of a 3-year-old child, which were later confirmed to be those of Wahhaj’s missing son, Abdul. Thursday’s indictment alleges that Wahhaj and the other four defendants kidnapped the child from Georgia and were ultimately responsible for his death.

The compound suspects were originally arrested in late August for felony child abuse, but a prosecutor’s error forced a judge to dismiss the charges. The FBI re-arrested the suspects days later and eventually charged them with violating federal firearms and conspiracy laws. The latest indictment released Thursday includes these prior charges.
