Rep. Zeldin Rips Pelosi for ‘Radical Imam’ Giving Invocation

Written by on May 12, 2019

The delivering of Thursday’s House invocation by Imam Omar Suleiman concerned Jewish Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-N.Y., who called the imam a “radical” anti-Semite.

“On Thursday, the noon prayer was given by an Imam from Texas who has a long history of, not just supporting BDS [Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions], but comparing Israel to the Nazis, accusing Israel of being a terror regime, calling for a Palestinian intifada in the past, and inciting violence, supporting the Muslim Brotherhood, and that list goes on,” Rep. Zeldin told Sunday’s “The Cats Roundtable” on 970 AM-N.Y.

“There are so many other options, there are other Imams to bring . . . I think it is outrageous that Speaker Pelosi chose that radical Imam to be speaking before Congress.”

Zeldin reminded listeners the Muslim Brotherhood “should be a designated foreign terrorist organization” because the Hamas charter says “all Jews must die, that Jihad is an obligation.”

“I was caught off guard by it quite honestly,” Zeldin told host John Catsimatidis of Thursday’s invocation. “There was no announcement it was going to happen. The Speaker, either her team, failed to vet the Imam, or, worse, they did vet the Imam and thought it was a good idea to bring him anyway.

“Bad call either way.”
